Guy Smashes His Floor To Save A Cat Who Was On The Verge Of Drowning

Heavy rains caused widespread flooding in South Texas last week, destroying countless homes and displacing dozens of families.

Vannah Vercetti and her husband were among the victims, but at least some of the damage to their home was inflicted by them — and for good reason.

The Vercettis live in Weslaco, Texas, which was flooded by the storm. Last Wednesday, when the floods began to rise around them, the family hurried inside to save their animals. Blanca, on the other hand, believed she’d already found a safe haven to wait out the storm.

She was mistaken.

“Blanca chose to hide beneath the house to avoid the rain,” Vercetti told. “We began to hear meows from beneath our bedroom floor.”

Blanca was stranded as floodwaters continued to rise beneath her home.

“I tried to pull her out in the rain but was unsuccessful. I rushed crying inside, feeling hopeless, thinking I was about to lose my cat to drowning “According to Vercetti. “Blanca’s heartbreaking cries could be heard. It was too much to take.”

Vercetti’s spouse devised a strategy to save the cat at that point. He began feverishly hammering through the floor with a hammer near where Blanca’s cries were coming from.

Blanca was saved with only seconds to spare before the flood engulfed her.

The cat was sopping wet, but otherwise unharmed. She’d been rescued just in time.

“I was so relieved. I was crying out of grief and at the end, it was tears of joy,” Vercetti said. “The water was inches away from the floor. She had a small air pocket that kept her alive long enough for us to get to her.”

Blanca, a former stray cat adopted by the Vercettis, had never shown devotion to them – until they rescued her from a life-threatening situation.

Vercetti said, “She and I weren’t really extremely close.” “But she’s starting to follow me around and meow at me more. I believe it’s because she realizes she was saved by us. She is aware that we adore her.”

Although the floodwaters have passed, the damage has not. (Visit this GoFundMe page to contribute to the repair fund.) Nonetheless, it was all worth it to Vercetti.

“I’d rather have a hole in the floor than a hole in my heart,” she added. “I adore my kitties.”
