Potato-Shaped Chubby Cat Enjoys Standing As If Someone Needs A Home

Initially weighing 25 pounds, Bruno quickly captured the hearts of the employees at Wright-Way Rescue by standing on his hind legs and being charming. He was placed in a foster home, where he insisted on being petted while eating and requested many water dishes in everything but the kitchen of the house.

He was referred to as “extra” by the rescue workers, who were baffled as to why someone had not stepped forward to adopt such a charming, eccentric cat.

After the Illinois rescue shared a long Facebook post about Bruno and his many incredible qualities, people started to take notice and suddenly, Bruno had multiple families yearning to adopt him. So many people wanted to welcome Bruno into their homes — but one woman knew that Bruno was definitely meant to be her cat.

“The only way to put it is that I freaked out at my desk,” Lauren Paris, Bruno’s new mom, told The Dodo. “My boyfriend and I were already in the market for rescuing a cat, and when I saw Bruno’s pictures, I just knew. I felt SO driven to adopt him! The post mentioned that Bruno was extra. I was in luck, because so am I.”

With a letter of intent, references, and videos of her and her partner at their house, Paris got to work on the application process right away. She realized she needed something to elevate her adoption application above the rest in order to demonstrate to the rescue how serious she was about adopting Bruno. She then had the finest thought.

“Gimme That Fat Cat” is a song that Paris’ friend Kathleen Gibson, a student at the Second City Conservatory in Chicago, created. Paris later emailed the shelter a recording of herself singing the song.

… and it was a performance that the shelter just couldn’t ignore.

“We were selected to meet Bruno this past Saturday,” Paris said. “We came to the shelter with food, litter, treats and toys for him and his friends. It was so, so exciting to meet him, because he was just as fabulous as I knew he would be. I honestly loved him instantly. So it was really hard to say goodbye and leave him at the shelter, not knowing if we’d ever get to see him again.”

“I squealed and jumped up and down for about five minutes before laugh/crying for another 55,” Paris said. “And then I called everyone I know.”

The instant Bruno stepped out of his carrier, he appeared to be entirely at ease and delighted to be a part of his new family. Bruno is now all established in his new home. He always follows his parents around and adores receiving love and attention at every opportunity.

He is presently on a diet in order to shed some pounds, and he appears to be enjoying his new, healthy way of life. Bruno’s parents are overjoyed to receive him and are relieved to learn that he is every bit as eccentric as the shelter said.
