The Footless Kitten Finds Love And Support In The Young Family

What cats can endure is amazing, but what they sometimes must endure can be heart-wrenching. Pascoe is a young cat who knows this terrible fact all too well.

He was found on the Blair family property with his back legs cut halfway off. Pascoe was actually walking on the bone stumps of his back legs; his body was so emaciated, you could see his bones beneath his ginger fur. A tragedy for a cat of any age to endure, Pascoe was only 12-weeks-old when the Blairs found him.

Pascoe’s new mom, Sophie Blair, believes the unfortunate cat was left on their property after being severely abused. Pascoe’s background is unknown, but he was in serious difficulty.

Sophie said News 9 in New Zealand, “He wanted help.” “When we initially spotted him, cat was meowing nonstop, but he was afraid and wouldn’t come close us.”

After she saw her she was trying to hide in the barn, as she was afraid we were hurting her. Very carefully I took a blanket and wrapped it Sophia said.

As soon as they received it they immediately sent it to the vet. Pascoe was hungry and had an infection in his injured legs. He needed surgery, but the little kitten was not strong enough for such an intervention, due to malnutrition and disease.

It would be a week before he saw the operating table, but once he was there, the vet was able to pull the skin down over the bone and sew it together to form a stump that could heal healthily.

Pascoe is recovering now that the infection has been fought, according to Sophie, who says, “His legs are improving nicely and look so clean.”

As an official part of the Blair family, the cute ginger kitten is revealing how love feels. He likes to play and feed on time. They like kisses and hugs too.

We decided to call him Pascoe which means brave because he was such a brave cat in his fight to overcome the anxiety of losing his legs.

Pascoe will be fitted with prostheses when he is a little older. He, like his name, is destined for even greater things, Sophia said.

“He has been a very strong wee man,” shared Sophie. “We are so proud of him.”
