Three Legged Cat Wins Charity Award For Helping Boy With Cerebral Palsy

The cat of the year is a three-legged cat that helps a six-year-old with speech difficulties.

Minty, a cat from Holywell in Flintshire, beat hundreds of other cats to win the top prize at the National Cats Protection Cats Awards.

He won because of his “unique connection” to Connor, a six-year-old boy with severe learning disabilities.

“I’m very happy that Minty is familiar with the amazing cat she is,” said Connor’s mother, Siobhan.

“He is an important part of our family and it is wonderful to see the special bond they have between us,” she continued.

“Minty sets the example that cats are intelligent, loving and trustworthy. He is the best friend Connor needs and deserves, and we can always count on him to make things better.”

Minty, a nine-year-old cat, was honored by Cats Protection for his support of Connor, who suffers from a range of medical issues, including ataxic cerebral palsy.

The cat, who lost her leg in a car accident, helps Connor with daily tasks, such as eating with a spoon at meals, articulating sounds and many different games.

Minty even helped Connor learn to climb stairs despite his lost leg.

“Minty’s three legs do not stop him from having fun, and I think that makes him love Connor,” Siobhan said.

“Whatever comes their way, they are invincible as a team. Minty is a really inspiring cat and we adore him.”
