Cat Rings In The New Year With His Grateful Human After Being Lost In The Wilderness For Weeks

The notion of our animal going missing is every cat owner’s greatest nightmare come true. This is an especially scary prospect for a cat who spends most of its time indoors. Cal, Crystal’s cat, is her most trusted buddy.

She claims that the two of them “do everything together.” Paddle surfing, camping, and even road trips are among the activities she enjoys.

Cal (short for California, though he was born in Kansas) may be described as an adventurous cat.

Cal’s trip, however, ended with him being stranded in the forest for weeks…alone!

Crystal’s heart was devastated in early December when her favorite kitty companion went missing by mistake.

It was a never-ending search and the most heartbreaking 14 days of Crystal’s life, according to her.

She, her family, and friends canvassed the neighborhood, hung flyers, used the Nextdoor App, and visited local shelters and veterinarians in the hopes of a miracle.

Then, at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, December 18th, her prayers were answered. Karen contacted us after seeing what she thought was Cal in a photo posted at Loving Family Veterinary Hospital in Aurora, Colorado.

Karen reported to have spotted an orange cat loitering in the open space behind her home. But it was from a distance, and she could only see the feline through binoculars.

Crystal jumped into her car and drove straight to Karen’s place, not pausing for a second to consider her options.

Crystal explains:

“I started driving without really paying attention to where she lived.” I was desperate and wasn’t thinking clearly, which was fortunate because she lived 9 miles to the southeast of me!! Cal had left by the time I arrived, so we went for a walk around the neighborhood. When I called his name, he ran out from behind a house, weeping and rushing to me!! The moment I heard his voice and realized it was him, I literally dropped to my knees!!! It seemed like a scene right out of a movie.”

Cal was clearly in horrible shape, as Crystal could tell right away. He’d lost roughly a third of his total weight, and his legs and paws were scraped and scratched. And they couldn’t help but wonder when he’d last eaten or where he’d sought sanctuary.

Despite his state, the lost child hopped into Crystal’s automobile without hesitation.
Cal realized it was time to return home to the one who adored and missed him.

Cal’s survival is a mystery.” Crystal Zerr (Crystal Zerr)

Colorado is recognized for its magnificent animals, including abandoned pets, that wander freely across the state.

Cal utilized his amazing cat instincts to avoid becoming a meal for a coyote (or any other larger Colorado predator). Crystal reports she observed an exceptionally huge coyote that was injured traveling near her unit the day after he returned home.

“He withstood malnutrition, thirst, 13-degree temperatures, and even walked far over 9 miles with coyotes around,” Crystal adds of Cal’s extraordinary bravery and talents.

But, in addition to Cal’s incredible story of survival, Crystal received even more fantastic news. Because she found out something about the nice woman who had called her regarding her pet not long after. Karen was the mother-in-law of a buddy! So, despite its size, Denver appears to her to be a little world when it comes to her cat’s happy reunion.

Cal, thankfully, is doing good now. And Crystal has assisted him in regaining half of the weight he lost during his terrifying wilderness experience. I really wish cats could communicate. Because I’d be interested in hearing Cal’s narrative of survival.

“I can’t wait for more experiences with him!” Crystal exclaims.
