Cat Is Obsessed With His Mother’s Potato Cabinet

The majority of cats like to spend their time on their beds, baskets, or cat trees. Nugget, on the other hand, is not one of them.

When the rescue cat came into a potato-filled cupboard beneath the kitchen sink, he felt it would make an ideal lair. Nugget’s safe haven is the potato cabinet. A safe haven for his prized potatoes, where he can keep them warm.

“He started doing this about nine months ago when I accidentally left [the cabinet door] open while cooking,” Anshu, Nugget’s mom, told The Dodo. “He just jumped to the second shelf, stepped over the six or seven potatoes and made space for himself in the back!”

Nugget had a rough start in life, with his former owners abandoning him on the streets. The 8-year-old cat is now completely devoted to his mother and follows her around the house.

Anshu described Nugget as “the most affectionate cat ever.” “He enjoys snuggling and will snuggle up to you whenever he has the opportunity. He has to sit on my lap regardless of whether I’m trying to work or watch TV.”

Nugget, on the other hand, still experiences anxiety and is afraid of meeting new people. The potato cabinet provides a safe haven for the rescue cat whenever he feels bashful or terrified.

“I think he enjoys there because of the earthy fragrance and how serene it is,” Anshu explained. “Because it’s dark inside, he’s presumably extremely comfortable in there, where he can securely see the outside world.”

And the more potatoes, the better for Nugget: Anshu explained, “He doesn’t do much in there — he just loafs and purrs.” “When we eat extra potatoes, he appears to enjoy it even more!”

Nugget isn’t interested in eating the potatoes, and he doesn’t have the necessary teeth to do so. He simply enjoys sitting quietly in the cabinet, watching over his potato kids until they’re ready to be cooked.

“It’s just his default thing to do now,” Anshu said. “Every time I go into the kitchen, he is trailing behind me and standing beside the cabinet so that I can open it and let him inside.”
