More Than 300 Cats Were Discovered In A Two Bedroom Apartment In Toronto By Rescuers

It all started when neighbors began to protest about the circumstances of a two-bedroom flat in a Toronto high-rise.

They contacted Toronto Cat Rescue, and volunteers responded swiftly to assist. When it was discovered that the flat housed 300 cats, everyone was taken aback.

It’s incredible to see in person how 300 cats might squeeze into a small flat. The cats had taken over the entire flat, and some had even piled up in the bathtub. These kitties had to be saved as quickly as possible, it was painfully obvious.

Belinda Vandersluis, executive director of Toronto Cat Rescue, told The Dodo, “It was a really tough environment to spend any time.”

“Apart from the fact that there were 300 cats there, the scent was overbearing and it was simply an awful place to be.”

The volunteers assisted in the removal of the cats from the residence in many waves. 300 cats are now safe and sound in the hands of rescues and foster homes, receiving the love and attention they lacked while living in the apartment.

80 cats were rescued by Toronto Cat Rescue, and they are currently living peacefully in foster homes and doing surprisingly well. “They’re playing, eating, and they don’t have fleas or worms, nor do they have any medical or dental problems,” Vandersluis added.

According to records, the apartment was cleaned in the autumn and the tenant had three cats at the time, and Toronto Community Housing is currently investigating the matter to figure out what happened.

The cats are all doing well and once they are spayed, neutered and vaccinated, they will be ready to be put up for adoption and find their forever homes and owners who will give them all the love and attention they deserve.
